Munich. On the occasion of her inaugural visit to the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), the Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, Dr Stefanie Hubig, emphasised the great importance of the DPMA. "More inventions and patent applications are a good signal for economic development in Germany," said the Minister. "The protection of intellectual property is of central importance for the promotion of innovation and the competitiveness of our economy. The German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) plays a key role in this. That is why it is important to me to further strengthen the DPMA's high level of expertise and performance." During her visit to Munich, the Minister was accompanied by State Secretary Eva Schmierer.

DPMA President Eva Schewior was delighted with the visit and the appreciation it brought. "We are a service provider for many innovative companies. They depend on a strong and sustainable DPMA. We are therefore grateful for the explicit commitment to the importance of the DPMA and are pleased to have a supporter of our concerns in the Minister," said the DPMA President.
The DPMA President, Vice-President Dr Maria Skottke-Klein and Vice-President Bernd Maile held talks with the Minister about current topics at the DPMA and the strategic challenges of the coming years. The departments informed her about current developments in IP procedures for patents, utility models, trade marks and designs. The BMJV delegation also held talks with the staff representatives of the DPMA.
The German Patent and Trade Mark Office
Inventiveness and creativity need effective protection. The DPMA is the German centre of expertise for all intellectual property rights - for patents, utility models, trade marks and registered designs. As the largest national patent office in Europe and the sixth largest national patent office in the world, it is committed to Germany’s future as a country of inventors in a globalised economy. Its almost 2,800 staff based at three locations - Munich, Jena and Berlin - are service providers for inventors and companies. They implement the innovation strategies of the Federal administration and develop national, European and international IP systems further.
